Analysis of particle size distribution in municipal wastewaters

Innovative membrane filtration plants for municipal wastewaters are being developed and need the support of reliable models in designing phase. In past, semi-empirical processes have been proposed. At present, most prominent works point out importance particle poly-dispersity development but fail into implementation probability density functions (PDFs) capable an accurate fitting experimental size distribution (PSD). We report PSDs two different wastewater samples, obtained through laser diffraction technique. The results show that technique can characterize dimensions both colloidal supra-colloidal regions. study is complemented by a comparative analysis which many PDFs used to fit least-squares approach. Some these proposed here first time PSDs. Among considered statistical modeling, three-parameter lognormal Burr demonstrated provide satisfactory fitting, whereas other fail. This result confirmed available samples.
